Ro's weight-loss thread
I'm starting this thread to track my progress losing weight and abstaining from junk food.

I weighed in today and have lost nearly 10 lbs since January 25th. I feel good, my pants are looser and my moods aren't all over the place now that I'm not relying heavily on sugar.

I've also been exercising, usually 4-5 times a week, and nothing too strenous.

Feel free to jump on and share your own weight-loss goals.

The goal of spiritual practice is full recovery, and the only thing you need to recover from is a fractured sense of self.

RE: Ro's weight-loss thread
nice thread Rowan....I'm 3 weeks sober today....and I too have the looser pants syndrome....I have picked up a sugar craving like I don't believe!!! I have 4 boxes of dark chocolate coverd cookies in the house, Ferrer Rocher chocolates...I am trying to limit myself, but it's hard...I NEVER did this before. I even went through 1/2 small bottle of flavored coffee creamer in one week!!!...I am trying to substitute fruit, and no sugar creamer, but it is HARD!!!

when I was consuming 8-10 glasses of wine a night, I figured it added up to almost an extra 2,000 calories per DAY..I don't need to replace those empty calories with cookies and chocolate!!! yes, i eat fruit, but chocolate seems to be the most thing i want.

I did stop eating cookies for breakfast today....biggrin.gif

Slow down there Fandy...Remember you are new and sugar cravings go wtih being new..so don't go overboard..remember recovery is first priority start by replacing some of the sweets with maybe some fruits but don't focus so much on the weight that you lose sight of recovery...and that is only a suggestion based on expereince

RE: Ro's weight-loss thread
I never have eaten so much cookies and chocolate in the last 22 days as I have eaten all year! i do eat fruits, but nothing beats chocolate and cookies these days.....(and I don't need those empty calories either).

today I am having eggs for breakfast and toast and keeping with my exercise routine.

BF, although you don't know me,an important part of my motivation for staying sober IS the weight loss, one of the best things is no bloated face and looser pants....I feel better when I look better!...I know there is a BIGGER reason than physical vanity, but right now in the last 22 days, this is feasible for my one day at a time, because I look better each week.

Weighing in at 220. Hoping to lose 15 (will settle for 10) by April 10 when I go to FLA.

RE: Ro's weight-loss thread
Be my guest, Fandy, and anybody else so inclined.

I feel weak today and suspect I'm not getting enough nutrients these last days. I think I'll make lean hamburgers tonight with a nice salad.

I've been exercising on the Wii Fit, doing some aerobic exercise as well as strength training. I've also been walking when I can - the beautiful weather helps.

I'm really down today, mood-wise, and I'm not sure why. Sometimes there is no good reason.

Just filled up my water bottle and am going to make that a goal for for today; to drink at least 6 bottles (500 ml) of water today.

The goal of spiritual practice is full recovery, and the only thing you need to recover from is a fractured sense of self.

RE: Ro's weight-loss thread
exercise always boosts my mood and it really helps with my HTN.....but since I haven't really worked out consistently in almost 6 months...I am taking it slow....using the "add-on" method...(kind of reminds me of "one day at a time"). doing this at home, I am too embarrassed to go to the gym, not ready to go back yet...but part of me wants to as I truly enjoy working out.

Last Saturday I started....and was pitiful...I could only do 4 push-ups...so I did 4, did 4 plie squats...(wide leg on toes works inner thighs and calf muscles)...4 pitiful oblique sit ups (each side), 4 bicep curls with 8# dumbbells and deadlifts... I figured this is my starting point....every day I add a rep....Today I am at 8 reps, push-ups, squats etc. and I added 8 mins. on the treadmill....tomorrow it will be 9...I am really struggling for that last push-up!!!

If I use this "add one" method, I should be able to gain some strength in a couple of weeks without making it a big deal....I have so much going on, that if I "overwhelm myself" I'm afraid I will get discouraged...which can lead to all sorts of trouble for the newly sober me....

RE: Ro's weight-loss thread
What else are you doing for your recovery, Fandy? Sorry, I'm not familiar - do you go to AA or take part in another recovery program? As important as diet and exercise are in my life, they are no substitute for recovery work.
