Working with others
I'm Kathy and I am most definitely an alcoholic.
Working with others has always been a part of my life though I have never done a real f2f 12th step call. The Big Book gives me/us "suggested" steps that in reality need to be taken to get, keep, and maintain sobriety. One of the mantra's I hear is "Remember you maybe the only Big Book somebody sees" and so I keep that uppermost in my mind 3rd in line. The first two are nearly equal my sobriety and my higher power. Without the Higher Power I wouldn't be sober or serene; much less happy. So what has this to do with working with others? with doing college on line you wouldn't think that drinking would be involved. Yet because of my willingness to share and show what sobriety is and has done for me; no one else, I have had several ask me how to handle their drinking. I have been able to 12-step several who were in shaky situations via the IM's. I help maintain a Recovery Bulletin Board and have found myself mentoring others who ask for help with various living situations. I have a f2f sponsee who swears I was put in their life so he could learn how to deal with the problems that the degenerative spinal cord problems without drinking. Being able to do things like this is one of the gifts I get from continuous sobriety. |
