Today my cell phone rang, and I immediately recognized the ring (although I haven't heard it for a while). It was my ex-wife calling to let me know that she was in a nearby town and passing a "ski and tennis shop" that was having a sale. She thought it might be useful info for me and my father (we both like to ski and my father loves tennis).
I thanked her for the info and mentioned that I didn't really need anything new (also thinking to myself: I can't afford anything right now) and I didn't think my father needed anything either (heck he just came back from England from watching Wimbledon!) and she got upset, all huffy and puffy and hung up. Why get all upset? She had some useful info. she wanted to inform me of, I thanked her for the info and I was truthful to her. Now from living with her for years, I know that if we were still together she'd want me to go to that store and look to see what they had "you could use a new pair of goggles" (no my goggles are fine), etc. "what about your father?" (I just spoke to my parents and asked them if there's anything that they need and they said no), etc. Why can't she just accept my thank you and let it go?
